TES was recently engaged by a distillery in Alberta to perform an urgent repair on a leaking boiler tube, classified as an emergency due to its potential impact on the distillery’s supply chain. With their distribution stock running low and only five days remaining before their ability to supply products would be affected, the situation required immediate attention.
The challenge arose from the boiler being a tangential-type boiler, which meant access to both sides of the leaking tube was not possible without cutting through the casing and removing the refractory – a time-consuming process the client wanted to avoid. TES minimized downtime by utilizing a specialized window welding technique, allowing the repair to be performed without damaging the casing or disturbing the refractory.
Working closely with regulatory authorities, TES developed and executed a repair plan, obtaining ABSA approval for the solution. The project was completed over the weekend using two window welds on the affected tube, and by Monday morning, the boiler was back in full operation. This timely repair enabled the distillery to continue production without disrupting its distribution through the Alberta Liquor Commission.
This project highlights TES’s ability to deliver fast, reliable repairs in high-pressure situations, ensuring clients avoid costly downtime and return to normal operations as quickly as possible.
